Ana Roldán, Swiss-Mexican artist based in Zurich, Switzerland, joined theprogram «Panapaná 2018» in the city of João Pessoa, Brazil, curated by Raphael Fonseca and Tiago Sant’Ana.
The artist took part in a workshop consisting of seminars, portfolio readings and talks with young artists from all over the Northeast Brazil, an also realized an unprecedented painting-mural on a public space of the city. After this meeting, Roldán was the first resident of the program «VERBO» SLZ», a partnership between the performance festival «VERBO» and the «Chão SLZ», at the historic center of São Luís city, Brazil.
About Ana Roldán
Ana Roldán (1977, Mexico City) studied history at the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) in Mexico, and Visual Arts at the Hochschule der Kunste in Bern, Switzerland. The starting point of her research are historical events, philosophical ideas, language, and various systems to stimulate the observer physically and intellectually, creating oppositions and displacements between these systems. In her work, Ana Roldán employs various languages, such as performance, sculpture, installation, video and collage. This diversity is also visible on the natural materials such as coconut, bamboo, wood, semi-precious stones or leather which weave a reflection on their origins and uses in the context of the investigated cultures.
Visual Arts Project organized by the Foundation and Cultural Center José Lins do Rego, dedicated to young artists in the Northeast region, who are invited to join the program through an open call. The project takes place annually and is in its third edition.
«VERBO SLZ» performance art show
The partnership between «Verbo» and «Chão SLZ» began in July 2018 and seeks to intensify the contact between the art scene around «Chão SLZ» and the artists invited for a residence, driving, from this experience of affection, developments, in the shape of actions, which will integrate the «Verbo» performance show in São Paulo and São Luís.
