About Garrett Nelson
Garrett Nelson is a Swiss and not Swiss visual artist. They use referential impulse, theoretical or historical research, literature and poetics as a basis for performance scripts and installations. Lately they have been concealing themselves from the audience using curtains and voice in works called «Blind Audition» that have been performed with Viva Hoffmann and Richie Shazam. Other topics and themes have been post-human club kids, («Head Bimbo», 2015-17) or the fascist patriarchal origins of white walls, («The Law of Ripolin & Pique His Vanity», 2017-18).
As part of its partnership with the FLORA ars+natura contemporary art space, COINCIDENCIA is supporting a residence programme (Escuela FLORA) within the partner institution in Bogota. The artist chosen for this residence in 2019 is Garrett Nelson. His residence will begin in February 2019 and continue until the end of the year. This is the third FLORA residence offered by the COINCIDENCIA programme. Johannes Willi (Basel) was the first artist hosted, in 2017, followed in 2018 by Sarina Scheidegger (Basel).
FLORA ars+natura is a contemporary art space that specialises in the relationship between art and nature. Every year, FLORA offers residences to over a dozen artists from all around the world, thus creating an international network driven by projects and activities of all kinds.
